Abstraction in art has been (and remains) largely inaccessible to popular taste because it has not been understood. The sources in nature from which art is "abstracted" are unseen or obscured. While the greatest of abstract painters have been deeply inspired by those "other realities" that exist beyond the observable world, interpretation of the formal properties of their art the use of color, line, form, texture have become ends in themselves. Much 20th century art is a self absorbed investigation, referring only to itself to the exclusion of nature.
The work of Geoffrey Lardiere exemplifies one position in this formalist debate. After a decade of graphic design work in Los Angeles, Lardiere began his paintings using rigid shapes squares and rectangles then strives for spontaneity. He likens this letting-go process to a spiritual search for new formal solutions.
Lardiere started his career using his creative talents as an art director/graphic designer for big-named clients at a Los Angeles advertising agency. After a move to Tallahassee and three years of teaching at Florida State University this man's artistic vision is now creating abstract paintings, prints and sculpture. His creations have been purchased by more than 400 collections, private and public, including IBM, American Express, Citibank International, Walt Disney World Corporation and Daytona Museum of Fine Arts, to name a few. The listing of one-man and group shows and his honors and awards are extensive for this brilliant addition to the Naples art scene.
Geoffrey Lardiere is an internationally collected artist, who was awarded the largest commission ever for AT & T's permanent collection. Lardiere has created works now held in over 400 private and corporate collections, American Express, IBM, Disney, Citicorp International, the University of Florida and Florida A&M University among them.
