My paintings are the struggle to strike a balance between contradictory elements — the conscious and the unconscious, feeling and intellect, structure and spontaneity, freedom and necessity, grace and crudeness. However, since the notion of art is to deal with the unknown, this reconciliation of opposites and the ordering of raw feeling has converged with spirituality. To pray and to make art is to listen to and hear this self who is speaking. In prayer and art we say who in fact we are — know who we should be, nor who we wish we were, but who we are. All spirituality and painting begins with this confession.

Spirituality and abstract art are an inner process that continually appears and becomes familiar like another concsiousness. It is our opportunity to be one-on-one with God. The most difficult thing in an art/prayer experience is to keep intact this consciousness of the abstract. The secret is not to be afraid, to drop our shields, and to let God and each other know our vulnerability.
